TWO YEARS OF LAYAH: THE TRIPS THAT HAVE STAYED WITH US

As layah celebrates its second anniversary, we’ve been thinking about the journeys we have had the pleasure of bringing to life.

Of course, there have been beautiful hotels, unforgettable restaurants and some very special places. But when we look back, those aren’t the things that mean the most to us. It’s the messages we receive when our clients return home. It’s hearing that a trip felt easy, that a family had time to simply enjoy being together, or that an experience was even better than they had imagined.

Every journey begins differently. Sometimes it starts with a destination someone has dreamed about for years. Sometimes it marks a new chapter. And sometimes, a client simply knows they need to get away but isn’t quite sure what that should look like yet.

One of our favourite trips from the past two years was a couples’ journey through Japan, planned thoughtfully over the course of a year.

The couple wanted to experience a culture very different from their own while still feeling comfortable along the way. Their days included an afternoon with a geisha in Kyoto, a sumo competition in Osaka and plenty of time to explore Tokyo’s shops. Food was an important part of the experience too, right down to securing a much sought-after table at an omakase pizza restaurant.

What stayed with us most was hearing that the trip was better than they had imagined. Japan can feel like a lot to navigate, especially when it comes to transport and reservations, so knowing they could relax into the experience made every bit of planning worthwhile.

Then there was an anniversary trip to Italy which is the kind of journey that reminds us why travel is such a beautiful way to celebrate the people we love.

There were incredible views in Positano, carefully chosen hotels and smooth journeys from one place to the next. But the best part of their feedback was simple: they wouldn’t have changed a thing. The whole trip felt easy from start to finish, leaving them free to be together and celebrate the reason they had travelled in the first place.

Some trips are less about quiet moments for two and more about the fun, energy and occasional chaos of travelling as a family.

For one family, that meant a journey through Seoul, Bangkok and Phuket. Their trip included city tours, a stay at Rosewood Bangkok, a villa at Trisara in Phuket and a day out on the water. Their message afterwards was full of the little details they remembered: kind staff, wonderful food, plenty of space in the villa and a boat trip they all loved.

Those details matter. They are what turn a holiday into a family story that gets brought up around the dinner table for years to come.

We also helped a family celebrate a babymoon in Palm Beach with their toddler joining the adventure. They trusted our recommendation of Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach, and the hotel took care of every request we had arranged. What could have been a tiring trip during a busy season of life became a chance to slow down, spend time together and feel looked after.

That is what these past two years have really been about.

Not just choosing a destination or booking a beautiful room, but listening closely, understanding what each of our clients need and making sure the journey feels right for them. It’s being there before, during and after the trip. It’s sorting out the details so our clients don’t have to think about them. And it’s creating space for moments that could never be captured in an itinerary.

To every client who has trusted us with a honeymoon, anniversary, family holiday, birthday or long-awaited adventure: thank you. Thank you for sharing your stories with us, recommending us to your friends and allowing us to play a small part in some of your biggest memories.

Two years in, that feeling still never gets old.

And we cannot wait to see where you go next.
